With a constant mindset of learning, Mat knew he was not going to stick to one strategy, he started in residential income property then expanded to buy-fix-sell, lease option, commercial buildings and new development projects. 

Mat has led projects renovating properties which includes partnering with a developer over the past 10 years to build 240 houses and low-rise condo buildings. He now focuses on managing the assets of commercial portfolios including mixed retail and residential plazas and multi-use storage units.

Using his creative skills to developing alternative approaches Mat also coaches and mentors investors in real estate and business acquisition.

Calvin Poon and his fiancée, Lichee, had some initial hard lessons after buying at the height of the market but ended up successfully renting out their first property and then completing a flip.

Now they are doing an infill land development project in St. Catharines, Ontario and documenting their journey on their website to help other real estate investors see what it takes to do what they term “Flat (land) to Doormat”. 

Not coming from a construction background, Calvin emphasizes that land development and construction is more about your mindset, he has discovered it is 80% mental and only 20% actual construction.
